WRITING ASSIGNMENT: Looking at a Series of Photos

 WRITING ASSIGNMENT: Due by class time on Tuesday, October 20th:

How to photographers choose the images that become part of a series they show in a gallery, book, or online exhibition? What is it about them visually and thematically that allows them to work together as a group of photographs to expand upon an artist's ideas but still remain interesting, strong photographs in their own right?

In order to prepare you for your Final Project where you will be creating a series of multiple photographs based on a theme and subject of your own choosing, look through some of the photographic series on www.lensculture.com.  In the Search bar, type a keyword for the kind of photography you might decide to do for your final project (landscape, portrait, still life, abstract, etc). 

Choose one series you find based on this keyword search that you think is interesting. Look at all the photographs in the series and read the artist statement (if there is one). Write at least three full paragraphs about the series you chose. How do the images work together? Are there photos that you find stronger than others? Weaker? Are there photographs that you like but don't feel like the fit in the series? In this writeup you will dissect the photographer's work to see how a series of images ticks.
