MANDATORY GROUP CRITIQUE: Monday, Nov. 2^nd

In the Camera:

A successful photograph, particularly a documentary photograph, is able to express an entire story in on frame.  This story might be ambiguous, but it should make the viewer consider the relationships between the subjects of the picture, and/or between the subject and its environment.

Take at least 75-100 photographs of human events as they unfold in front of you.  These events can be as simple as a person walking down a street or a group of people playing Apples to Apples, but you should be looking for ways to capture the story of what is going on.  It is required that you photograph human subjects for this assignment.  Look for interesting angles, concentrate on the environment around the person/people, and pay attention to details. Keep in mind the philosophy of “f/8 and be there.” Fast shutter speeds and high ISO and/or a flash (for indoor shooting) are recommended.

On the Computer:

You will choose TWO photographs to convert to black & white and edit.  All photographs must be in black & white and convey strong use of composition, camera skills, editing, and storytelling.

For Monday, Nov. 2^nd  BEFORE CLASS:

Save low-res versions of your edited photos and the original images. Post the original & edited photographs to your blog, with camera data (ISO, shutter speed, aperture) for each shot.
